This section deals with the many aspects of providing support and training for School Governors and Administration Clerks and provides information and advice to parents regarding School Admissions and Transfers.

  • Maintains a database containing the details of all the county's school governors and facilitates the elections of new governors and existing governors whose term of office has expired
  • Provides a comprehensive Training Programme for both new and experienced Governors and Chairs
  • Services the following bodies :
  • Shadow/Temporary Governing Bodies.

  • The Admissions Forum.

  • The Standing Advisory Committee for Religious Education(SACRE).

  • The Children's Partnership.

  • Arranges School Admissions Appeals.
  • Issues an annual 'Information for Parents' booklet that provides guidelines and information to parents whose children are moving to a new school and to those parents who intend moving into Carmarthenshire.
  • Prepares the Termly Agenda and provides the accompanying papers.
  • Provides briefing/traing sessions for the Clerks to Governing Bodies.
  • Deals with Schools Admission requests.
  • Deals with all Primary to Secondary School transfers.
  • In collaboration with the lead advisor on Outdoor Education certain categories of School Educational Visits are administered by the department's staff.
  • Together with SWAMWAC (The South, Mid and West Wales Consortium) information and advice is sourced to schools on Performance Management issues.

 The section is responsible for handling student data for a variety of uses and users.

  • Provide first line training and support to school admin officers on the use of their management information system.
  • centris logoMaintain LEA central database (CENTRIS).  Data received from schools is used to populate CENTRIS this data is then used by the LEA MIS, Education Welfare Officers, Catering Service (FSM), SEN and various departments for statistical use.
  • Provide training and support to school admin officers in producing the school PLASC (Pupil Annual School Census) return to NAW.  The school PLASC return is accessed by the section, this data is then validated before finally released to NAW.
  • Provide training and support to school admin officers in producing the school NDC Key Stage Results.  The school NDC data is accessed by the section, this data is then validated before finally released to NAW.
  • Produce Annual Reports for all schools in Carmarthen.  These reports include the current years NDC results plus historical data for the previous three years.  These reports are used by the school and School Improvement Service.
  • Provide first line training and support to school admin officers on the use of their financial accounting system (CASH ACCOUNTS).
