Welcome to our school. We all hope that this information will be of some help to you as you strive to become familiar with the routines of our life here in the school. Our aim is to present you with some basic information. It is our hope that you will be very happy in school. If you want any information, please do ask and we will do all we can to help.

Introduction to our school.

The Model and practising school began in 1857 in Catherine Street. The Model School relocated to its new site in 1987 as a Voluntary Aided School. The school is now situated on the North Western outskirts of Carmarthen in a growing residential area. The School received an Architects Award for its design in 1988.

This Church School has established a fine reputation which is reflected in the increasing demand for places. As a designated 'Welsh Office Popular School' with subsequent funding for extra classrooms, the quality of accommodation will be of the highest standard. This stands as testimony to the excellent results achieved by a committed, enthusiastic and caring staff and well motivated children working together strongly supported by parents, governors and the whole community.

The school has grown from 85 pupils in 1987 to over 350 pupils with over 30 teaching/support staff. The School is fortunate to draw upon the many talents of its staff, not only for specialised teaching but also being able to offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities. The School is committed to the professional development of all staff and has embarked on the 'Investors on People' programme and has received the Basic Skills Quality Mark Award.

Each child is special. Each has a special talent to bring to the School, or a special need to be accommodated. We aim to provide the very highest standard of education for all children.

A broad based curriculum has been devised to provide all children with a wide range of experiences in order to stimulate their interest and imagination. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of reading, writing, listening, speaking and numeracy skills through well defined programmes of work. Teachers work very closely with one another in a school which is dedicated to a programme of self development through its School Development Plan.

The P.T.F.A. is a thriving association which supports the school with Information Evenings, fund raising, help within the school and social activities. The Governing Body are responsible for the School. Advice and support is provided by the Local Education Authority (L.E.A.) and the Diocesan Director of Education. The Governing Body has delegated the responsibility for the day to day management of the School to the Headteacher, under the Local Management of Schools Scheme (L.M.S.). This involves the management of Learning, School Policies, Personnel and Resources. The School Governing Body meets at least twice every term and the Sub-committees at least once every term. Governors visit the School at least once a term on a rota basis and present a written report to the next full Governors meeting. The Governors have a very active and responsible role in decision making and are always very supportive of the school's needs. The Chairman of Governors is the Principal of Trinity College, Carmarthen. There is a very strong association and partnership with the College, which was established in 1856.
