 Introducing Judaism to Year 1 and 2

Jayne's workshop on JudaismSummary  In her workshop, Jayne described a series of activities on Judaism which her pupils had experienced during the term. the term.  Jayne explained that the majority of the activities developed from the children’s interest after meeting the persona doll, ‘Rabbi Benjamin Jacob’.  She talked about the children’s responses, showed examples of their work and also the displays which had been on the walls of the school.  This is how Jayne introduced Judaism to the children. 

 

 

 

 

1.    Whole school Act of Collective Worship

  • Introduce the persona doll, Rabbi Benjamin Jacob, to the whole school.
  • Talk about his ‘persona’ and describe his life and his family (see the county’s notes on Rabbi Ben’s persona.
  • Learn Jewish vocabulary like ‘tallit’ and ‘kippah’. 
  • Learn the song ‘Shalom’.  To see the song, click here.

The children’s response – The children loved the doll.  They accepted it completely naturally.  They listened carefully during the assembly.  They enjoyed saying the new vocabulary and learning the song.
