Curriculum changes - Key Stage 2 Geography

Thinking and Communication  are the two skills associated with geography which are highlighted by the icons at the top of the page.

Geographical skills are divided into

  • Locating places, environments and patterns
  • Understanding places, environments and processes
  • Investigating
  • Communicating

Asking and answering geographical questions is a strong feature of the new orders. The range  or content as it was described in the old orders has been adapted.

  • Studying of the local area remains the same, but investigating at least one aspect of the geography of the whole of Wales is new.
  • Living in other countries has been partly changed. The study of a location in a  Less Economically Developed such as a place in Lesotho has not changed. This section has been changed by studying a locality that is of a different level of economic development outside the United Kingdom such as a place in Tuscany.
  • The environmental theme is now described as living in my world  and is broadly similar

The geography in the news topic is new and the statement on fieldwork has been greatly strengthened.
