The Welsh Assembly Government's document, 'The Learning Country', makes a commitment to ensuring better transition between primary and secondary schools, so that it:

a) contributes substantially to the raising of standards for 11-14 year olds.

b) reinforces the drive to add significant value to the standards achieved between ages 7 - 11.

Governing bodies of secondary schools and their partner primary schools will be required to work jointly so as have transition plans in place by September 2007 - one plan per family of schools. The process should include consultation with pupils and parents.

The purpose of this section of 'Amdro' is:

* To provide up to date news in so far as transition is concerned.
* To provide downloadable versions (or links to downloadable versions) of recent documents relating to transition.
* To provide guidance material for schools.
* To provide examples of good practice within existing families of schools in Carmarthenshire.
